My Laughing Heart

As I journaled through my thoughts this morning, it became clear that a ray of sunshine has parted the clouds of the last few months. God has poured out blessings and abundance into my life, such abundance I couldn’t have imagined as I scaled down again and again the amount of “things” in my life. Creating more space for Him, and slowly, He is filling up those empty spaces, empty moments. He is turning my perceived “lack” into “more than enough.” My heart is happy, and it overflows.

One of my favorite poems that always comes to mind in such moments is Charles Bukowski’s “The Laughing Heart.” If you are intrigued, listen to it here. I’ll share it below:

your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
God will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
God waits to delight
in you.

~ Charles Bukowski
