Learning Guitar

Hey y’all!

Here is my first documentation (and vlog?!) of one of my journeys: learning guitar. I’ve owned this little guitar since highschool, but I’ve never really (seriously) taken the time to learn how to play it. I know a few chords, and essentially one strum pattern. I get bored easily playing the same song over and over again, so I tend to flit between songs and never actually practice enough to learn ONE song. That being said, I didn’t quite stick to one song tonight, either.

Music is one of those things that even though I’m not great at it, I enter a flow state where I literally lose track of time.

Even though intellectually I knew I needed to cultivate hobbies to release anxiety and stress, I used to believe that in order for me to TRULY enjoy hobbies, I had to be the best at them. Well that didn’t leave very many hobbies left… in fact, probably zero. Where is the fun in that? I hope you enjoy the awkwardness of this video as much as I had fun making it.

Disclaimer: The point of this video is to be a “starting point.” Hopefully, ideally, maybe, some far off day I will look back at this video and see how far I’ve come.

So I remember this one time we were at a friend’s cabin…and you played guitar and sang for us and my jaw dropped. And then you said that it was the first time you had played that for anyone. I didn’t believe you because it was so good!

I’m glad some of your goals relate to singing- you have talent, my dear friend <3

P.S. this is actually why I like sitting next to you at Mass :p
